XMLeges family tools have been developed by ITTIG (Institute of Legal Information Theory and Techniques) within the NIR (NormeInRete) project, promoted by CNIPA together with the Italian Ministry of Justice in order to:

• create a unique point of access to legal documents in a distributed environment; 
• create a system of permanent links between legal materials, able to guide users towards the participating authorities’ websites.

To achieve this aim URN and XML standards for legal documents have been defined, and a family of tools has been developed to support the implementation of such standards.
